Mango Pachadi |Maanga Pachadi recipe|Kerala Sadya recipe|Onam special food


My love for mango is beyond words ! Like the name "MAN- GO" - Almost every MAN and woMAN GOes gaga for this squeezy,pulpy,yummy king of fruits.This summer we bought lots of Mangoes as I was trying my various ways to feed my baby girl .Till now,her favorite fruit is Banana .Her favourite way to eat mango is my homemade Mango ice cream .

So , as I was trying out different recipes with Mango,I also made a Mango pachadi ,which I always wanted to make .


Pachadi is a coconut-yogurt based mildly spiced recipe made with seasonal vegetables like cucumber,beetroot,carrot,pineapple mostly .Pachadi is an inevitable item from Sadya ,Kerala's grand feast served during Onam and Vishu festivals.

So,for a change and for the love for Mangoes ,I made a "sweet" Mango Pachadi.My family loved it too.

I love this sweet and little sour pachadi as I believe it is so nutritious,a good combo of fruits ,vegetables ,yogurt and spices .You know for me this Mango Pachadi is nothing less than a dessert .I can eat it all by itself ,licking my fingers in and out .I am a nasty eater.😃😋😍

And this is how I make quick and easy Mango Pachadi at home for Sadya :



Ripe Mango,chopped (medium size) - 1 cup 
Mustard seeds,crushed - 1/2-1 Tsp 
Fenugreek powder - 1/4 -1/2 Tsp
Salt to taste

For seasoning :
Shallots,chopped - 2-3 Nos.
Green chillies,chopped - 2-3 Nos.
Curry leaf - a few
Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp
Dry red chillies -- 2-3 Nos.

For grinding:
Yogurt/Curd - 1 cup
Coconut - 1 cup
Shallot - 1-2 Nos.
Ginger - 1 inch
Curry leaf - 1-3 Nos.
Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
 Water - 1/2 cup (adjust as per the thickness of the curry needed)

NOTE:You can add more yogurt to adjust your desired consistency .

How to make Mango Pachadi /Method :

1.Heat a pan and put all the seasoning .Usually,after preparing the curry,we can just add the seasoning then .But we can also make pachadi like this.
2.Add the mango pieces to it and saute and cover with a lid till they turn soft .Since this ripe mango has enough water in it,it will cook by itself .So,it will depend upon the type of Mango used.Otherwise little water can also be added to cook the mango pieces.
3.Grind everything under "For grinding"and make it into a smooth paste .
4.Crush mustard seeds .
5.Add this paste to the cooked Mango pieces and fenugreek powder .Mix well.
6.On low flame  ,let it simmer for 1-2 minutes and DO NOT BOIL.
7.Add salt to taste.
8.Mix everything and the super delicious Mango Pachadi is ready to serve.

After preparing the curry ,seasoning and yogurt can also be added at last,which is the usual method people follow.However,we can also make Pachadi like this method quick and easy way.

For me ,so far this is the best-est Sadya Pachadi I ever had.The sweetness of Mango,sourness of yogurt and little spices etc makes this Pachadi recipe simply lip-smacking .

Why wait for Onam or Vishu to make this pachadi a part of Sadya ,make it any day ,you won't regret it and kids will love this curry too .
