Foods to fight depression PART 2

In my previous post, we discussed depression, symptoms, causes, etc. Today we will see the role of diet in dealing with depression.

Food I believe is medicine if taken properly and if not, poison for our body/health. My past health issues made me realize that! Now, I am like the torchbearer/ food police for my family especially and blog readers too, showing green signals to the right food, red signals to the wrong food, orange signals to any food ok for cheat days (life is short after all ! Have a break have a KitKat or anything your heart yearns for ..Don't be tooo hard on yourself).

Though my family, parents may or may not listen to my blah blah food advises and they have their weird reasons too 😏. Hubby and little girl do cooperate though since I cook but if I overlook, they may also overindulge otherwise. However, I say what I gotta say , rest is up to them but when it comes to hubby and little girl's health/food, I am tad strict.

When it comes to the treatment for depression, medicines, therapy, and self-care go hand in hand. Self-care includes physical activity, sleep, a positive approach, and diet. Even though there is no particular diet or food that can cure depression, Science agrees that food is an inevitable and efficient edible approach to cope up with the overall treatment for depression in a positive manner.

According to Psychiatry research published by sciencedirect.com, "A dietary pattern characterized by a high intake of fruit, vegetables, whole grain, fish, olive oil, low-fat dairy and antioxidants and low intakes of animal foods was apparently associated with a decreased risk of depression. A dietary pattern characterized by high consumption of red and/or processed meat, refined grains, sweets, high-fat dairy products, butter, potatoes and high-fat gravy, and low intakes of fruits and vegetables is associated with an increased risk of depression."

So, here are the brain foods that we can include in our diet to beat depression more efficiently and effectively WITH the proper medicines and therapies prescribed by the doctors.

Likewise, there are some foods we should avoid that can trigger depression and many other chronic diseases.

There are little things which we may underestimate like reading food labels (Let the James bond/Sherlock Holmes in you awake #SpyModePeople ) and making sure the apt sugar content in them, the apt saturated/trans fats in them, if they are GMO/refined/processed foods, if they are organic, whole wheat, etc. Not using plastic containers to store or cook food as they can leach toxicity. Not using canned foods as they may have excess sodium/sugar/salt and other preservatives for longer shelf life.  #KnowledgeIsPower #IgnoranceIsNotABliss

It is also best to have an organic vegetable garden at home for fresh veggies without any exposure to any pesticides etc. For me, the very sight of any seed sprouting in my veggie garden itself makes my day.😍

In today's modern era, it is a blessing to get fresh milk from grass-fed cows and fresh eggs from homegrown hens. If one can afford/are willing to have cows, hens at home somehow like good olden days, then it is a huge blessing too.No wonder why the older generation's immunity power is stronger than the new generation's.

Basically, it's all about making the right food choices, then combining them to your creativity and coming up with an ideal kicka** depression meal/healthy recipe and enjoy peacefully knowing that you didn't ingest anything chemical, toxic that can have adverse side effects. I mean if you are already on meds, you don't want to mess up or overload your body with unhealthy options more and screw your body and LIFE.So the choice is ours and we do have choices around if we pay attention and if we are damn serious about our health.

Cheers to good health!

I am not done yet with the main topic of discussion "Depression".There are other self-care tips too, that we can follow for a healthy abundant life let alone the depression. Since it is going to be a long topic again, I am gonna break it up further as every part is vital/precious on its own.

So, stay tuned.
